Where There's A Wil There's A Way

Last night I went for my induction course at New Park Manor,
Brockenhurst. I went with my friend Christine for moral support. It was a beautiful drive into the heart of the New Forest. New Park Manor (see links) is a relatively new hotel and spa with everything you could possibly need to feel pampered, relaxed and inspired to be healthy in, most of all my personal trainer, Wil was there. We met him in reception which has gorgeous views out into the Forest and you can see deer wandering around.

We had a chat with Wil and he showed us around the spa. Both Christine and I could hardly get our chins off the floor. I can't believe I've been given an opportunity to use this place as much as I want to for 12 weeks!!

It was all going so well until he opened the door to the gym. I'm not saying I have a phobia about gyms but to me it looks like a torture chamber, but that is the fear of the unknown because in the end it was really good fun.

Wil measured everything that was available for measuring and did fat density test. It was shocking to know that I am made up of more than 50% fat. I know that I have a persons weight to loose to get to my goal and that person is made up of purely fat!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEK

Wil is very inspiring and has a look in his eye that makes you realise that excuses don't wash with him and that it's just a matter of time before you realise YOU CAN DO IT. I was knocked down by a car a few years ago and my left knee doesn't bend too well so getting on to the cycling machine was hilarious. But it was a good mental picture to me because we worked out a way round it and I was able to cycle. So things can be overcome in the gym even my embarrassment! It's good to record everything as well to see the changes.

I can't wait to use the aqua facilities as I am a bit of a water baby and have been longing to swim but lost self confidence and I was slightly worried what would happen if my knee wasn't supported. Had visions of getting stuck in the water and being hauled out of the pool like a whale by crane!!!

I feel very positive and really want to make the most of these 12 weeks. I'm going to try to eat as healthily as possible up the fruit, veg and water and try not to eat and drink so much junk, even diet junk!!

Next radio appearance is 24th July so want to show some evidence of progress

Well done Polly! Sounds like you had a lot of things to overcome last night and you faced them and overcame them.

What's my excuse for not going to the gym? I don't think it's fear. Apart from 'not having time' (laziness? lack of determination?) it does seem expensive.

I'm wondering if I could find a way of working out with housework and gardening. Apart from imagination I'll be needing some self-discipline, which is the thing I find hardest to muster. Perseverance can also prove elusive. Maybe reading your dieting diary will be a good reminder and encourgement.

I ought to try swimming again. I gave up when I had a bad neck as I swim with my head out of the water which meant my neck was in position that was bad for it and it was painful. It all feels so much better now I could probably manage to swim OK now.

Hi Daisy!

Well done on this! You go girl!

My gym's worth every penny - feel so good after going and it has cute men working out! Yay!

And I still find pennies for the odd bottle of wine (chosen by my viniculture expert partner of course!!).
